Teaching Opportunity

I read G&G Ross's letter to the boy's . They were pretty worried about them when they heard what a dangerous place Trinidad is. Jack said,"Why would they pick such a dangerous place to go to." This gave us a great opportunity to talk about the Sons of Mosiah in Chapter 17, of Alma, in the Book of Mormon. We read verses 5 thru 18.

vs9 The scriptures talk of how they prayed and fasted much ,before serving their mission.

vs 10 And that they were comforted by the Lord. I told them G&G did the same thing.

vs 11 Being an instrument in the Lords hands for the salvation of souls. Their mission goal

vs 12 Taking courage in their mission.

vs 14 Undertaken to teach a wild and ferocious people, delighting in robbing, plundering and murdering. {not that all the people there are this way, just the bars, all the locks, and and the murder statistics. That is what got my boys a little shook up}

We also talked about,that the native people there are ancestors of the lamanites, they thought this was cool. I Assured them that G&G had the Spirit of the Lord with them.

vs 18 The scriptures also talked about how Ammon administered to them before their departure into the land of the Lamanites. They were set apart. He also imparted to them the Word of God, the MTC for G&G.

After that we had our family prayer and prayed for them that they would be safe and have the spirit of the Lord with them. I am so grateful for this teaching opportunity with my kids. When G&G were set apart the stake president said they would bless their grand children more by serving a mission than anything else they could do. This is already happening and they have only been there two days.
